Captain 23 Feb 1898, appointed Major on retirement 21 Sept 1901. Ashenden was built in the 18th century by Mr William Children and at one time was owned by a Mr Robert Curteis. Was the Mayor of Tenterden in 1921 and 1922 (at least 2 terms). Marriage notice in the Times No 36538 (Aug 1901) reads 'On the 17th August, at St Barnabas Kensington, by the Revd. W H F Edge, Vicar of Tilfors, Surrey, Herbert, Captain 2 RWK of Pullington Benenden Kent and eldest surviving son of Richard Neve of Ash Lawn Benenden to Lilian, eldest daughter of the late Anthony Goldschmidt of Kimberley. He was a Kent County Councillor from 1892 for the Cranbrook Division. He left an estate valued at £6,726.

Richard Neve [Parents] was born on 16 Apr 1829 in Benenden, Kent. He died on 25 Feb 1910 in Benenden, Kent. He married Emma Neame on 13 Aug 1856 in Selling, Kent.
Notice in Cricket - March 31, 1910. Mr Richard Neve, a member of the well-known cricketing family of Benenden, died at Ash Lawn, Benenden, Kent on Feb 25 in his eighty-first year. Will proved by Herbert Neve and Arthur Neame, £32,414 8s 3d. Copy of will held.
He was buried at St Georges Benenden on 1 March 1910. Baptised there on 25.06.1829.

The following inscription is recorded in the North Chapel, Benenden Parish Church 'Giving thanks to God for the loving memory of Richard and Emma Neve. This window is erected by those who revered and loved them.' Also in Smallhythe Church there is an inscription put there by Horace Neve in his memory, having owned Pickhill Farm in the parish (reported by NADFAS feb 1997). The 1861 census shows him living at Beacon Hill, Benenden. At this time he was farming 1600 acres employing 76 men and 26 boys.

William Giesler [Parents] was born on 6 Aug 1801 in London. He died on 27 Dec 1837 in St Vedast, London. He married Sophia Pettit Lloyd on 11 Jan 1830 in St Martin in the Field.
He became a freeman of the City of London on 6th November 1822 at the age of 21. Was apprenticed to his father on 06.10.1815 and served a term of seven years as an apprentice learning the trade of a furrier.
He was made free of the Goldsmiths' Company on 06.11.1822. It was during his apprenticeship that his father died and he finished his apprenticeship under the charge of his mother. He was given a lavish
funeral and bells tolled in the City. CLRO reference CFI/1488 by servitude Nov 1822. Will proved perogative court of Canterbury, February 1838. Letters of administration granted to Ellen and Alice
Giesler on 17 May 1862. He was then described as being of 4, Upper Woburn Place, Tavistock Sq, St.Pancras, and of 13 Cheapside in the City of London, Furrier. Buried in vault at Kensal Green Cemetry on 3rd January 1838.
Sophia Pettit Lloyd [Parents] was born in 1809 in Hendry, Wales ?. She died on 28 Nov 1851 in Sunbury, Middlesex. She married William Giesler on 11 Jan 1830 in St Martin in the Field.
At the time of her death shw was living at Darby Lodge, French Street, Sunbury. She was buried in the Giesler vault in Kensal Green Cemetry on 5 December 1851.
