Anthony Goldschmidt [Parents] was born in 1845 in Offenbach, Germany. He died on 27 May 1888 in Kimberley, South Africa. He married Anna Baumann.

Lorna Neve believes he married twice. and he had children by his first wife,including Cecil Goldschmidt. Described as a 'broker' and widower on his Death Notice.

Anna Baumann [Parents] was born in 1856 in Calvinia, Cape Colony, South Africa. She died on 29 Nov 1887 in Cape Town, South Africa. She married Anthony Goldschmidt.

I have her Bible, confirmed as such by an inscription signed 'AG' 12/1/1888.Also marked 'Darling Mother's Bible' by Lily. A book of poems by Longfellow, given to James and Ruth Neve by Lorna Neve, contains the inscription "For dear Anna with best wishes from JCK, Xmas 1886. Added later is 'died Nov 29th 1887 for Lilian.' SA death notice MOOC 6/9/260, #1576 confirms date.

May have come to the UK in the SA army towards the end of the 1914-18 war. I have his will in my posession, dated 19.10.1923. He was resident in Johannesburg at that time and may have been running a business called Goldies Motor Supplies.

Thomas Neve [Parents] was born on 20 Jan 1789 in Tenterden, Kent. He was christened in Tenterden, Kent. He died on 17 Feb 1867 in Benenden, Kent. He married Sarah Tanner on 10 Dec 1811 in Wivelsfield, Sussex.

He ran a large business as a land agent with 3 of his sons. He managed the Cornwallis estate. 1,000 people are said to have attended his funeral. The 1851 census states him as farming 1275 acres and employing 66 men. In 1851 he was living at Pullington House, Benenden with six children.
In 1841 he was living in Tenterden at Kingston House farm (Oakhouse Farm, Appledore) at the time of his death. Around 1824 he moved from Rolvenden to Benenden.
A Monumental Iinscription on a vault in Benenden Parish Churchyard states : "Sacred to the memory of Thomas Neve late of Pullington in this parish who departed this life 17 February 1867 aged 78 years."
His estate at his death amounted to £80,000. His will was proved by William Tanner of Patcham, Sussex, Charles Neve of Chart Sutton and George Neve of Cranbrook (Sons). Copy of will held.
Sacred to the memory of Sarah wife of Thomas Neve of this parish. She died 4 March 1853 aged 66 years. Also in memory of Marthe third daughter of Thomas and Sarah Neve. She died 15 September 1880 aged 57 years.

Sarah Tanner [Parents] was born on 27 Sep 1788 in Wivelsfield, Sussex. She died on 4 Mar 1855 in Benenden, Kent. She married Thomas Neve on 10 Dec 1811 in Wivelsfield, Sussex.

Married at Wivelsfield in the presence of her brother William Tanner and her sister Jane by the Rev George Haygarth. Buried at Benenden on 10 March 1855; age recorded as 66. Left an estate valued at £3,757. Nancy Gachet has a gold ring inscribed with the date of her death.

Baptised April 2nd 1813 at Tenterden, at which time the profession of his father was stated to be a Grazier. Named Hamshar after his maternal grandmother.

Believed to have built Ash Lawn. Buried on 25th April 1896.

The 1891 census shows her living on her own means at Ash Lawn.
The 1841 census lists her as staying at Moor House, Wivelsfield with the Tanners.

Charles Neame [Parents] was born on 18 Feb 1789 in Selling, Kent. He died on 6 Apr 1870. He married Ann Wightwick in New Romney.

There is a monumental inscription at Selling, Kent. Lived at Harefield and Woodlands. Clock placed in the tower at Selling Church in his memory. Left £25,000. See copper tablet on a grey marble frame - South aisle, west of South door of Selling Church.

Ann Wightwick [Parents] was born on 29 Jul 1793 in New Romney, Kent. She died on 25 Sep 1873 in Woodlands, Selling, Kent. She married Charles Neame in New Romney.

There is a Memorial tablet in Selling Church, Kent. The will was proved at Canterbury by Charles and Edwin Neame, sons. He left effects under £1,500. He lived at 'Woodlands', Selling. See also a stained glass window in Selling Church 'Adoration of the Magi' in the north transcept, east wall, two lights.

lived in Beckenham, London in 1882. Charles Neve wrote to her from
Russia, letter held.

Henry Burra was born on 15 Sep 1835. He died on 26 Feb 1886. He married Frances Curteis on 3 Mar 1864.

Frances Curteis died on 16 Jun 1870. She married Henry Burra on 3 Mar 1864.

Rev William Hatt Noble [Parents] was born on 3 Feb 1871 in Hopton, Great Yarmouth. He died on 26 Jan 1950 in Hawkhurst, Kent. He married Elizabeth Frances Neve on 8 Aug 1912 in Benenden, Kent.

He was educated at Eton and Christs College Cambridge (1890 - 1893), MA 1897. Ordained deacon (Wakefield) 1895, priest 1896. Curate All Saints Cathedral, Wakefield 1895-1909. Vicar of Benenden 1911 - 1922. Rector of Sedlescombe 1927 - 1949.

Elizabeth Frances Neve [Parents] was born on 12 Apr 1892 in Rolvenden, Kent. She died in 1973 in Medmenham, Buckinghamshire. She married Rev William Hatt Noble on 8 Aug 1912 in Benenden, Kent.

  M iii John Padmore Noble was born in May 1918 in The Rectory, Benenden, Kent. He died on 8 Jun 1944 in Sully, Normandy, France.

He won the Military Cross in the 1939-45 war and was killed two days after D Day in Normandy. He is buried in Sully Churchyard 4km NW of Bayeux off the N6 road. He was godfather to Nicholas Neve.

Richard Burra Neve [Parents] "Dick" was born on 26 Aug 1893 in Rolvenden, Kent. He died on 26 Aug 1960 in Stone-in-Oxney, Kent. He married Florence Cager.

His obituary appeared in the Kentish Express on 2 Sep 1960.
Served in the Royal Artillery during WW1, gazetted as a Lt on 9/6/15 and a T/Capt on 22/12/15.
He was at a prep school at Eastborne when Lorna was born (1904). Details of his army career held.

Ernest Neve [Parents] was born on 22 Mar 1868 in Benenden, Kent. He died on 10 Sep 1939 in Benenden, Kent. He married Alice Nicholson on 1 Oct 1896 in Uxbridge.

Lorna states he started a bus company which eventually became the Maidstone Bus Company and that his son Charles drove for him. The 1881 census lists him at the Abbey Young Gentleman. He lived at Chart Sutton and was educated at Cheltenham College from 1881 to 1885.
Fruit and hop farmer, captain in the Rifle Brigade during Great War serving in 24th Battallion.
Was in India 1916-1919 retired 1921.
Was manager at Hastings of the Maidstone District Motor Services 1921-1927.
Lived at Goldington, St Matthews Gardens, St Leonards-on-Sea.
He was living at Winstowe, Charles Road, St Leonards-on-Sea at the time of his death and was buried at Benenden on 13 September 1939. He left an estate valued at £10,148. 6s 7d.

Alice Nicholson [Parents] was born on 7 Mar 1860 in Stratford Green, Essex. She died on 10 Jul 1935 in Benenden, Kent. She was buried on 13 Jul 1935 in Benenden, Kent. She married Ernest Neve on 1 Oct 1896 in Uxbridge.

She was living at 59 Sedlescombe Rd, St Leonards-on-Sea at the time of her death.

Dora Neve [Parents] was born on 17 Dec 1870 in Benenden, Kent. She died on 18 Mar 1959. She married Geoffry Weston Honnywill on 30 Jul 1902 in Benenden,Kent..

She represented Great Britain at the 1908 Olympic games, held in London in 1908 and her medals are in the posession of her daughter, Janet. She was also South of England Champion. She died leaving £4,660.16s.9d.
